Mark Rubin is the bassist for the The Bad Livers, and if you catch him when he's not touring, he's willing to negotiate a price, or even barter for lessons. His teaching emphasis is string bass, honing in on "archaic performance styles and approach." Beginners need not apply, and those accepted should pick up a video called "Slap Bass-The Ungentle Art" by RidgeRunner Video (RS-01).

old-time country.) Sessions include Santiago Jimenez, Jr. (traditional Tex-Mex conjunto,) Steve James (acoustic blues and hokum,) Gary Primich (acoustic blues, swing and classic Chicago blues,) Wayne Hancock and Don Walser (classic hillbilly, western swing and hardcore C&W,) Peter Rowan (bluegrass,) Brian Marshall (traditional Polish polka,) as well as many others. Proficient on tuba and balalaika bass as well.
