Levels: 1-2yrs experience required before studying
Texts: Dependent on studies. I employ many of my own materials (sequences, written literature, etc) for jazz studies, and the more familiar classical technique and repertoire materials (Simandl, Hrabe, etc.)
Experience: I have a growing list of students in the NYC area since relocating here from Miami in 1993. At that time I was completing my Master's Degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Miami School of Music, where I taught applied double bass and electric, jazz piano, and ran several ensembles, including one of the larger jazz bands. I was at that time also a student of world-renowned educator and perfomer Lucas Drew.
Professionally, I have been steadily busy in NYC, working as bassist for the Broadway show Crazy For You until its close in 1996. I also perform with the Eddie Palermo Frank Zappa Big Band on occasion. Most recently I have been touring from time to time with Grammy Award winning vocalist Bobby Caldwell. I also freelance around the NYC area playing mostly jazz gigs. In 1995 and 1996, I toured Europe with Enja recording artist Guitarist Rudy Linka as part of his trio. I am also the bassist for Die Laughing, an independent original rock trio.
Influences: Scott LaFaro, Charles Mingus, John Patitucci, Marcus Miller, Michael Moore, Edgar Meyer, et al
Venue: I prefer to teach at home, since that is where most of my technology resides- computer, keyboard, written materials.
